DP William Ruto denounces Opposition leaders using violence to propagate their agenda

Baringo, Kenya: Deputy President William Ruto has denounced opposition leaders using violence and acts of defiance to propagate their agenda.

Ruto asserted that no amount of unlawful acts will derail the Government from achieving its core mandate of securing the nation.

The Deputy President hailed Parliament for passing the new security law which he said will enable the Government to deal firmly with terrorism.

“We are tightening legislation to enable us to deliver services to Kenyans and those politicians who believe in violence and politics of confusion should not be allowed to derail our agenda to secure the Nation,” said DP.

Ruto made the remarks when he presided over the Baringo Goat Auction and Cultural Festival in Kimalel, Baringo south Constituency, Baringo County.

The Deputy President asked Kenyans to be wary of politicians who are out to cause chaos for their political selfish gains.

“Some of the opposition leaders are known to run their political parties using violence as witnessed in Kasarani, Homabay and more recently in parliament and wherever they go they leave a trail of violence. We want to tell them to give us a break so that we deliver services to Kenyans,” said Ruto.

He asked Parliamentarians to act responsibly whenever dealing with issues brought before them so as to be emulated by their electorate.

“Those in opposition shouldn't bring their violence acts into the National Assembly. They should portray a civilized manner whenever deliberating issues,” added the DP.

“We want to tell them that they've no place in this 21st century Kenya. We don’t want people who cause chaos wherever they go,” he said.

“We cannot accept terrorists and criminals to deny us the right to live in a free democratic nation as enshrined in the constitution,” said Ruto.

At the same time, Ruto put cattle rustlers and bandits on notice saying the Government has stepped up efforts aimed at curbing insecurity in Baringo County.

The Deputy President stated that all security agencies had been mobilized to ensure that incidents of cattle theft are stamped out to ensure peace prevails.

He asked residents in the area to join the Government in these efforts under the community policing programme.

He said while the Government was beefing up security, wananchi had a duty to report criminals in their midst to the authorities.

Leaders, who addressed included Baringo County Governor Mr. Benjamin Cheboi and the area Senator Gideon Moi, called for concerted efforts to root out cattle rustling menace.

The leaders resolved to forge a common agenda in the fight against insecurity occasioned by banditry and cattle rustling activities.

The area Member of Parliament Hon. Grace Kipchoim expressed concern that insecurity problems have retarded the development of the area and called on leaders from the region to spearhead peace efforts.

Other leaders who spoke were MP for Baringo North Hon. William Cheptum and MP for Baringo Central Hon. Sammy Mwaita.
