Stop calling for split, Othaya MP Mary Wambui tells coffee farmers

Mary Wambui - Othaya MP

Coffee farmers affiliated to the troubled Othaya Farmers' Co-operative Society have been advised to stop agitating for a split as it is likely to affect production.

Othaya MP Mary Wambui said small societies are not economically viable and may expose the farmers to exploitation.

"Farmers should be weary of those agitating for the pulling out of the umbrella union. This will reduce your bargaining power and expose you to exploitation," the MP observed.

Wambui claimed that groups of profiteers were sponsoring some members to break the giant coffee union that has 19 units.
