11 United Democratic Front MPs seek to be enjoined in party suit

Eleven United Democratic Front MPs and a governor have sought to be enjoined in a party dispute pending before the Political Parties and Disputes Tribunal.

The MPs and Lamu Governor Issa Timamy claim the order obtained by Nairobi branch party officials has hampered operations of the party as members are unable to meet to discuss party affairs.

The MPs through lawyer George Kithi say the order issued by the tribunal stopped party leader Musalia Mudavadi, Jeremiah Kioni, Petronilla Were and Kassim Sawa from calling any meetings, which includes the National Governing Council and the party's Parliamentary Group.

The MPs said judging from the impasse, it is clear the party is attempting to handle its affairs through several forums unsuccessfully.
The application was certified urgent and the MPs directed to serve the claimants and the matter be heard inter partes on November 20.
