Leaders condole family of Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto

Governor Rutto with daughter Emmy

Nairobi; Kenya: Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto’s home in Chepalungu was a beehive of activity yesterday as residents and local leaders visited to condole with the family following the death of his daughter Emily Chepng’etich.

Chepng’etich, the second-born child of the governor, died at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi on Friday morning after a short illness.

President Uhuru Kenyatta sent  his condolence heaping accolades on the star cricketer whose death has shocked the country. The President described the late Chepng’etich as a young dedicated Kenyan and expressed deep sense of loss on her death.

Young professional

“It is hard to comprehend how the cruel hand of death has so suddenly snatched Emmy Chepng’etich from our midst. She was an energetic, jovial and an extremely pleasant person to deal with,” the President wrote on his Facebook page.

“The death of Emmy reminds us that we are sojourners in this earth. It is therefore prudent for all of us to be focused and contribute to the well-being of our society.”

In his condolence, President Kenyatta described Chepng’etich as one of the few young professional Kenyans whose skills have immensely contributed to his government’s agenda of lighting up the country.

“For the period she has worked at the Geothermal Development Company, Emmy has proved to be a dependable person whose efforts were geared towards the success of the nation,” said the President.

He said Chepng’etich offered valuable contribution to the growth of sports in the country through her role in cricket. “Despite her success, the late Emmy learned the virtue of humility which enabled her to always mingle with both the lowly and the mighty in society,” he said. To the family, the President said: “I sincerely hope the Lord Almighty will give you strength and fortitude to bear the loss.”

Promising future

Bomet Deputy Governor Stephen Mutai led leaders from the county in sending messages of condolence to Ruto’s family.

Mr Mutai said death had robbed Kenya of a brilliant electrical engineer who also served as the national women cricket team captain. He assured Ruto and his family that Bomet residents were with him in prayer.

Chepalungu MP Paul Bii, Kanu Secretary General Nick Salat, former Cabinet Minister John Koech and former PS Sammy Kirui also sent their condolence.

Kirui asked Kenyans to pray for Ruto’s family during this trying moment.

“We are deeply saddened by the demise of the young girl who had a promising future and all we can tell the family of Ruto is that we are together in prayers during the difficult moment,” he said.
