Pastors oppose newly declared marriage fees

Kirinyaga, Kenya: The Kirinyaga County Pastors' Forum has raised objection to the Government's newly declared marriage certificate requirements.

Through its chairman Bishop Daniel Njagi, the clerics' forum said the decision by the Attorney General to recall all marriage certificate booklets which cost Sh20,000 per copy and to demand that the clergy buy new ones at Sh25,000 per copy was exploitative.

''If indeed there is no exploitation, the Attorney General should give us the same number of booklets we return to his office without asking for any payment since we had paid for the copies in our possession,'' he said.

He suggested that in order for the move to suit the two parties, the Attorney General should allow them to continue using the old booklets until they have exhausted the stock.
