POACHING: Bungoma residents asked to help

Bungoma; Kenya: Bungoma County Deputy Governor, Hillary Chongwony, has urged residents to support the county government in eradicating poaching at Mt Elgon National Park.

The deputy governor hailed park rangers for their efforts but said more needs to be done to arrest poachers and completely eliminate the vice.

Chongwony said those involved in the illegal practice should seek other alternatives to earn money because poaching not only harmed the region’s wildlife but also the county’s economy.

The public was also encouraged to take part in tree planting around the park to conserve the eco-system.
