Body of infant mauled by cats in Malindi

Malindi, Kenya: There was shock and anger in Barani area in Malindi town after locals found the body of a-day-old infant being mauled by cats.

A villager was passing when he saw five cats mauling the body of the infant that had been dumped on the road side. The body of the baby boy was badly mutilated.

Locals say that the body may have been dumped in the area on Wednesday around 2am given that is when dogs were heard barking.

It was still not clear who had dumped the baby but locals believe it must be one of the commercial sex workers who reside in the area.

"I was passing and when I arrived near the area, there were over five cats that were mauling the body but I could see that the baby was not even a day old," said an eye witness Mr Mustaffa Ali.

He said the cats were roaring and even tried to attack him when he tried to chase them from the body.

Police were called in later and took the remains to Malindi District Hospital and launched investigation to find and arrest the mother.
