Nakuru dad poisons children, self after row with wife

Nakuru, Kenya: A 30-year-old man poisoned his two children and later attempted suicide in Arash Sub Location, Subukia Sub County.

Subukia OCPD Alex Ng'ang'a said Dennis Mwangi poisoned his five-year-old son and four-year-daughter after a dispute with his wife.

Ng'ang'a said the domestic dispute had led to the separation of the couple on June 30 when the wife went back to her parent's home with the children.

The OCPD said Mwangi yesterday visited his wife parents' home while the wife had left for work. He convinced the mother-in-law that he wanted to see the children and later gave them poison.

"The man is said to have had a quarrel with his wife forcing her to part with the children to avoid further conflicts. However, later the man visited the children claiming he wanted to change their clothing but later, he fled with them," said Ng'ang'a.

On arrival at his home with the children, Mwangi forcefully poisoned the children, said the OCPD.

"The children cried for help that attracted neighbours who rushed to rescue them but they found him and the children lying on the floor of their house with foam flowing from their mouths," said Ng'ang'a.

He said neighbours rushed them to Subukia Health Centre for treatment but unfortunately, the five-year was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mwangi was referred to Nyahururu Sub County Hospital in Laikipia County while his daughter is receiving treatment at the Rift Valley Provincial General hospital in Nakuru.

The body of the deceased was taken to Nyahururu mortuary for postmortem while police officers commence an investigation to arraign Mwangi in court and charge him with murder once he recuperates.

Elsewhere, police officers have launched a manhunt to arrest a 29-year-old man for allegedly stabbing his wife to death in Sachangwan village in Rongai district Nakuru County.
The suspect Lawrence Kiprotich is said to have picked a quarrel with his wife Vicody Cherotich after she portrayed him as an irresponsible man for borrowing salt from their neighbor without his consent.

Confirming the incident, Rongai OCPD Joseph Mwamburi said Kiprotich, a casual labourer stabbed Cherotich several times on her neck using a knife.

"The man picked a quarrel with his wife at around 7pm after claiming she had embarrassed him by borrowing salt," said Mwamburi.

Mwamburi said neighbours rushed to rescue the woman from the husband but they found her lying dead with blood oozing from her body while Kiprotich went into hiding.

He said police visited the scene and took the body of the deceased to Molo district hospital for postmortem while police have commenced investigation to arrest the suspect.

Meanwhile, Alfred Mbugua, 40, from Maji Mazuri in Koibatek district who went missing on June 26 was found dead at Marasha forest by members of the public.

Koibatek Deputy OCPD Jonathan Wafula said the deceased was taken to Mercy Mission Hospital in Eldama Ravine for postmortem while police officers conduct investigations to arrest those behind his killing.
