Three women were arraigned in a Kakamega court for stripping, on two occasions, at police officers on duty.
Eunice Awino alias Nyar Gem, Caroline Anyango and Rose Achieng’ were charged that on September 20 and with others not before court, they performed an indecent act at Kakamega Central Police Station.
According to the charge sheet, the three had been asked to clean the station, but did so while naked in protest. They had earlier allegedly resisted arrest at the Jua Kali area of Kakamega on September 19, where they had also stripped as they confronted police officers who were on patrol to flush out criminals, but the three screamed and stripped at the cops in protest.
They were further charged with uttering words that caused a breach of peace to the effect that, “Hatuendi police station mukitaka mutuue, kwani polisi ni nani? (we will not go to police station, you can kill us if you so wish, who are police after all?),” words that indicated they wanted to beat up police constable Waweru, Juma and Mogaka who were on duty, reads their charge sheet.
Eunice Awino faced a separate charge of selling 20 litres of chang’aa on the same date without a licence.
The three pleaded not guilty to all counts and were offered a personal bond term of Sh 100,000 each. The case will be heard on November 30.
