Floyd Mayweather announces his next opponent for September 12 fight

Floyd Mayweather will take on Andre Berto on September 12, in what could be his final fight.

The American will step into the ring for the 49th time as a professional on September 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Berto was seen as the obvious choice after it was reported the two sides had been in talks.

Despite being only one win away from a half century should he maintain his 100 per cent record in September, Mayweather insisted after his last bout with Manny Pacquiao that his next brawl would be his last.

He said: "My last fight is in September, then it's time for me to hang it up. You know, I'm almost 40 years old now, I've been in the sport 19 years, I've been world champion for 18 years, and I'm truly, truly thankful and I'm blessed."

Brit Amir Khan has been vocal in his wish to fight Mayweather, with the Bolton boxer branding the pound-for-pound king 'unprofessional' for stalling in announcing his next opponent.

Khan said: "I just don't know why he's playing these little games, I think it's unprofessional really from a person like Floyd Mayweather who is renowned as one of the best fighters ever.

"He is playing these little games just to look for every little advantage that he can get. But I'm not going to let it get to me, I'm just going to keep calm and collected.

"If it happens, it happens, if it doesn't then there will be a plan B to move onto."
