Council of elders warns Kalonzo, defends embattled Devolution CS Anne Waiguru

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru

The council of elders from Mount Kenya region has come to the defense of the embattled Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru after claims of alleged corruption in her docket.

The elders said that there was a seemingly well thought out road map to humiliate and oust public servants from office on the basis of what they said and regions where they come from.

At a press briefing on Sunday that brought together elders from Nakuru, Nairobi, Kajiado, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Muranga, Embu and Laikipia led by Ben Kanyenji, an elder from Embu said comments by Kalonzo Musyoka on public resources being used to insulate the Devolution CS Anne Waiguru from answering to corruption allegations were 'extremely acidic’ and an incitement to the government.

"It seems there is a similar well-orchestrated scheme to surround and protect another set of senior public servants with wailing mobs and loud claims of witch-hunt. This is an outdated and primitive method of dealing with matters expected to affect any nation from one time or another," he said.

The elders pointed out that the attack on hard working public servants started with the CS for Transport Michael Kamau before targeting Devolution CS and the Education CS Professor Jacob Kaimenyi.

"You can be sure that the next one will be another hardworking, cartel fighting, impartial and transformative Cabinet Secretary," said Mr. Kanyenji.

Mt. Kenya council of elders pointed out that according to their analysis; those targeted had a similar background.

"They all oversee ministries that have in the past been ravaged by cartels of plunderers of public resources. It is clear that the ultimate intention of this crucifixion crusade is to hound out of office persons seen to oversee projects that threaten certain leaders who now see their chances of ascending to power in 2017 quickly vanishing," they said.

The elders said jubilee government should be allowed to work, adding that one could not expect maximum service from public servants if there are constant noises and farfetched corruption allegations.

"Positive criticism, yes but not constant harassment," they said.
