Financially struggling AFC Leopards got a reprieve after Kenyan Premier League (KPL) lent the club Sh2million last Friday to enable it pay outstanding bills. Leopards will refund the money once they receive their sponsorship funds from Mumias Sugar. This gesture came in handy for the team as it helps end player boycott at the club. “As a governing council, we care for the welfare of all our members and importantly, we don’t want Leopards to leave the stable,” said a KPL official, who attended Friday’s meeting. This is the first time KPL is lending money to one of its members who is experiencing financial difficulties.

APPEAL: MP Gathogo urges Fifa to save situation

By Kamau Maichuhie

An MP has appealed to football’s world governing body, Fifa to intervene and end the current impasse in Kenyan football. Ruiru MP Esther Gathogo said the stand-off between Kenyan Premier League (KPL) and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) was not healthy for the development of football in the country. Speaking when she graced Githurai volleyball tournament finals yesterday, Ms Gathogo said there was need for Fifa to intervene to bring an end to the impasse and salvage the controversy- riddled premier league. “With no end in sight to the impasse between KPL and FKF, it is high time Fifa offered guidance.”
