Speaker's guards kill suspected thug in robbery incident

NAIROBI, KENYA: Police officers seconded to National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi on Sunday shot dead a suspected thug and recovered a pistol from him in Westlands area, Nairobi.

The two constables were driving in one of the Speaker's official cars along Westlands Road when they spotted three men armed with pistols on a motorcycle robbing a pedestrian. Police said there had been complaints of attacks in the area by gunmen on motorbike.

According to police, Speaker's officers stopped and pursued the suspects before killing one of them as the other two accomplices escaped. The Speaker was not at the scene.

The policemen stopped and shot at the thugs, killing one while the other two escaped.

And as they escaped, one of them shot and shattered the rear windscreen of the Speaker's car. The car was later taken to Parklands police station for processing and release.

Witnesses said the rescued pedestrian was left traumatised after  the drama.

"No injury was reported on the side of the police and we are looking for the other men who escaped," said Nairobi Area police boss Benson Kibue

According to police, an Ekol P29 pistol with four rounds of ammunition was found on  the slain gunman.
