Heed Senate summons, KANU SG Nick Salat tells Bomet Governor Ruto

Kenya African National Union (Kanu) Secretary General Nick Salat has asked Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto to appear before Senate to answer queries raised by the Auditor General.

Speaking at Tenwek High School in Bomet, during a fundraiser attended by the governor, Salat said honouring the summons would give the Pesa Mashinani push credibility.

He said Ruto's continued resistance only gave the electorate more reasons to shun the push for increased resources to the counties.

"Mr Governor, I know you as a good leader. You should put the interests of Bomet residents first as their servant," Salat said.

Ruto, however, said he would not to heed summons by the Senate Accounts Committee.

He said governors were counties general managers and financial matters were handled by financial officers, who should be the ones summoned by Senate. He said governors should be summoned as a last resort, when those in charge failed to satisfy the committee.
