Researchers question absence of sports injuries

Football injury

Do you play soccer or rugby or engage in any other sport? Researchers say that every time you get onto the pitch, expect to be injured because there is no reason why you should not be injuries.

In a study published recently in the New England Journal of Medicine, after watching several clips of American football and conducting interviews, researchers were shocked that so few people get injured.

“When you watch football, gruesome injuries should occur at a much greater rate. Players are falling on each other’s’ legs, they get pulled, twisted, smashed, tossed and sandwiched.

The fact that there is no paralysis or compound fractures in every play is remarkable,” lead researcher Dr John Hickson said, as reported by Sports Pickle.

The researchers could not figure out why there were no gruesome injuries in the football.

“This is all about luck,” said Dr Hickson. “I know luck is not embraced by the scientific community but that is what we believe is the reason. There were countless plays when we could see someone getting crushed and say, ‘He’s dead’ but he would get up and continue with play.”

The study could not explain why many star players in football are indestructible, while others are frail.

Interestingly, the researchers revealed finding that athletes may not like. They note that violence in sports, particularly American football, is “pretty entertaining”.
