Nairobi, Kenya: Three suspected thugs were Monday morning shot dead by police after an attack on a petrol station in Ruiru where Sh2 million was stolen.

They were killed at Sunton area in Nairobi as they tried to hide in houses that are under construction. Police said they recovered Sh100,000, which was part of the Sh2 million that had been robbed from the petrol station.

Kasarani OCPD Augustine Nthumbi said eight men raided the petrol station in the morning hours and demanded for the money at gunpoint before escaping in two different groups.

One group drove towards Thika while the other raced to Kasarani area where they were killed and a homemade gun with four bullets found on them.

“They tried to escape into a crowd but our officer who were in their pursuit caught up with them,” said Nthumbi.

He added the other accomplices managed to escape on motorbikes in the drama that lasted almost four hours.

“I heard gunshots from that side before I saw a man run this way. I did not know he was among those being sought and later police emerged and killed him,” said a witness John Onsoti.

Police said they are still looking for the other gunmen on the run.
