Man accuses Aladwa in Sh10m fraud case

Nairobi, Kenya: A man has opposed the appointment of immediate former Nairobi mayor George Aladwa as chairman of Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company.

Balkrishna Devani accused Aladwa of allegedly falsely acquiring Sh10 million from him on grounds that he would sell him four pieces of land in various parts of the capital.

Devani, in his petition filed under certificate of urgency before the High Court in Nairobi, says Aladwa is not fit to hold that office.

Through his lawyer Nicholas Kamwendwa, Devani accuses Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero of flouting constitutional procedure while appointing Aladwa.

“The Constitution requires the selection and appointment of a leader be based on personal integrity, competence and suitability. They did not give regard to the integrity issues of Aladwa,” said Kamwenda.

Devani told the court that between July and August 2011, Aladwa had asked for Sh10 million from him and his wife, offering to sell one piece of land in Westlands, two parcels in Karen and another one along Mombasa Road. Aladwa allegedly admitted that he had no titles and returned just Sh4 million.
