Former Lands Ministers Amos Kimunya denies fraud-related charges

NAIROBI, KENYA: Former Lands minister Amos Muhinga Kimunya has been arraigned in a Nairobi court to answer abuse of office charges by fraudulently obtaining 25 hectares of land worth sh 60 million in Nyandarua county.

Mr Kimunya appeared before acting chief magistrate Doreen Mulekyo together with his co-accused Lilian Wangiri Njenga and Junghae Wainana.

However the three pleaded not guilty to charges. State counsel lilian Obuo told court that the accused on June 30 2005 used their offices to improperly confer a benefit to Midlands limited.

In his submission Kimunya's lawyer said his client is not a flight risk being a public figure. The magistrate ordered the three to deposit cash bail of sh 1 million or bond of 2 m to secure their freedom. mention is slated for Monday for the hearing date.
