Murang’a, Kenya: Ten people Sunday died when a lorry and a 14-seater Nissan matatu collided head-on at Sagana bridge, along Kenol-Sagana highway in Murang’a South District.

According to eye witnesses the speeding matatu tried to overtake a Pick-up truck, that was transporting bananas towards Thika, unaware of the approaching lorry.

Any effort by the matatu driver to swap back to his lane would have resulted in hitting the Pick-up from the rear.

The 6.30pm accident occurred on the bridge leaving several other people injured.

The Kenya Red Cross Society reported that it had evacuated seven Casualties to Makuyu Hospital.

The scene of the accident is described as a blackspot, where more than 300 lives have been lost in the last 10 years.
