NAIROBI, KENYA: Police shot dead three suspected thugs on Thursday night as they tried to break into a residential house in Nairobi's Kayole area.

Crude weapons were recovered from the men. Police say five men attempted to commit the crime and two managed to escape.

Police say one of the deceased had been working at the compound as a painter and is believed to have colluded with the other four.

Meanwhile, all CID County Commanders have been summoned to Nairobi this morning for a meeting to discuss how to deal with increasing rate of crime in the country.

The commanders are meeting at the CID pavilion in South C and will be addressed by director Ndegwa Muhoro.

The commanders have been complaining they lack resources for their operations and want the government to urgently address the issue. They lack among others vehicles and offices.
