Karua, Kenneth cleared to contest by IEBC

NAIROBI, KENYA: Presidential candidates and their running mates have started presenting their nomination papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The aspirants presented the papers to IEBC chairperson Issack Hassan and his team at KICC, Nairobi on Tuesday and were issued with official nomination certificates.

The first candidate to present papers for clearance was Narc Kenya presidential candidate Martha Karua who was accompanied by her running mate Augustine Lotodo.

Karua was cleared with Hassan urging her team to conduct peaceful campaigns.

Soon after being awarded the nomination certificate, Karua lauded IEBC for transparency in the exercise.

She expressed confidence in winning the elections and said if elected, her government will tackle corruption.

Eagle coalition presidential candidate Peter Kenneth and his running mate Ronny Osumba were also cleared to contest on Tuesday.

James Ole Kiyiapi of Restore and Build  Kenya and UDF presidential candidate Musalia Mudavadi are also expected to present their nomination papers on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, CORD flag bearer Raila Odinga and Jubilee Alliance presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta will present their papers.

Mohammed Dida, the presidential aspirant of Alliance for Real Change will also submit his papers on Wednesday.
