Moi calls for unity ahead of polls

Former President Daniel arap Moi has called for unity and co-existence among Kenyans as the country heads to the next General Election.

Moi told residents of Uasin Gishu to maintain calm regardless of their ethnic backgrounds to be able to plan for and foster development.

“Peace and co-existence is key to everything. Kenyans should embrace love and unity to achieve growth in development,” he said. The former Head of State dismissed some leaders who had hit campaign trails with promises of delivering, saying they would not achieve anything if they do not involve all Kenyans in their plans.

“We are all brothers and sisters and should be united. Leaders should come together in planning and articulating needs of Kenyans. No single individual or community can achieve this alone,” said Moi.

He added: “Kila mmoja aishi na upendo wa makabila yote (every one should coexist with all communities). Planning together will see the country develop.”

Moi spoke on Saturday after attending the wedding ceremony of Dr Wycliffe Kosgei and Dr Faith Yego at AIC Fellowship Church in Eldoret. The bride is the daughter of AIC presiding Bishop Rev Silas Yego.

Former nominated MP Ezekiel Barng’etuny, North Rift AIC Bishop Patrice Chumba and the Eldoret Catholic diocese Bishop Cornelius Korir were also in attendance.

Moi also urged Christians to preach peace and embrace togetherness regardless of their denominations. The former President cautioned the youth to uphold good moral standings in the society if they want to attain their goals in life.

“I know the young couple well, Dr Kosgei was a students at Sacho while Dr Yego was at Kabarak,” he said.
