A primary school teacher in Sameta District, Kisii County narrowly escaped lynching by parents for allegedly defiling a Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination (KCPE) candidate at his school.

The teacher reportedly lured the 13 year old girl to his rented room at Sameta market after meeting her walking home at midday on Saturday.

The teacher is alleged to have convinced the pupil that he had something to discuss with her in relation with KCPE exams that are set to begin tomorrow and asked her to accompany him to his house.

She obliged and the teacher locked her in his room for several hours. An uncle to the victim, a private veterinary officer, who was passing heard screams from the teacher’s room and decided to check out.

He raised alarm attracting residents of the sleepy market and teachers at the school to witness the incident.

The teacher employed by the school’s management committee however managed to escape as the irate residents rushed to the scene baying for his blood.

The girl was rushed to Gucha Level Four Hospital where she was treated and discharged.

The child’s parents claimed officers at Ogembo police station had not cooperated when they reported the matter, an allegation refuted by police who said they had only asked them to take the victim to hospital and obtain a medical report before the suspect is arrested.

“The candidate is now traumatized with only hours left before she sits her KCPE exams. Law enforcing agencies should swing into action and ensure the perpetrator is brought to book,” said a relative.

Gucha OCPD Richard Ng’etich said he was not aware of the claim that his officers had failed to cooperate. He said investigations would be conducted on the allegation which he termed as serious.
