Security beefed up ahead of World Cup

Kenya: Security has been beefed up ahead of the Fifa World Cup tournament that starts Thursday until July 13.

Police have assured all football fans of adequate security in all entertainment spots that will be screening the matches live.

Addressing the Press during a weekly media briefing session in Nairobi, Police Spokesperson Zipporah Mboroki asked owners of all entertainment joints that will be screening the matches to ensure all patrons are thoroughly frisked before entering their premises.

“Although we have beefed up security, we would also like to ask all owners of social places to ensure they have put in place sufficient safeguards to ensure every person is thoroughly screened before entering their premises,” said Ms Mboroki.

Fans were also warned against any acts of lawlessness or hooliganism during and after the matches. Mboroki urged the public to be conscious of their own personal safety and security by ensuring they do not over indulge.

“To ensure that all acts of lawlessness and hooliganism are reported, we have ensured that our toll free numbers; 999 and 112, are accessible throughout and can be used to pass information to us,” added Mboroki.

Meanwhile, the police spokesperson noted that calm had returned in Baringo County after the police officers engaged bandits in a shootout over the weekend and managed to recover the stolen livestock.
