Luanda MP Chris Omulele has revealed how former president Daniel arap Moi paid his secondary school fees when he joined Moi High School, Kabarak in 1987.

Mr Omulele said by then, the school was charging Sh3,200 per year, which his parents could not afford. Moi stepped in and paid the fees for the four years that the now MP studied at the school. Omulele passed exams and joined the University of Nairobi, where he studied law.

“I was fortunate to have gained admission to Moi High School Kabarak in 1987 from Esibeye Primary School in Vihiga,” he recounted.

“I quickly established myself in academics as well as sports in swimming and basketball, which I captained and participated in to the national level. This is what made me know Moi at a very personal level,” said Omulele.

According to the MP, bright but needy students who joined the school were never sent home for fees.

“If you were good in sports or academics, Moi would never let you be sent home for fees,” he said.

The former president also regularly interacted with the students to give motivational talks that inspired many of them into the leadership positions they are in today. “One of the main lessons he often repeated to us was that there was life after school. He taught us that in whatever position we were in, we should serve the people while expecting nothing in return,” said the MP.

“Everything I am today flows from my encounter with this great man,” he said.
