Man stabbed to death in suspected love triangle

Malava, Kenya: A man was stabbed to death at Burundu village in Malava in what is suspected to be a love triangle.

Evans Wafula, 26, died on the spot after being stabbed by a neighbour in what residents termed a fight over a girlfriend.

Angry villagers descended on the suspect's home and torched four houses, killed a cow and stole four others.

The residents are still in shock over what might have happened  before the Sunday night incident as most people were attending a funeral in the neighbourhood when the killing took place.

Rashid Waswa, a brother to the deceased, said he received the news of his brother's death and immediately rushed to the scene.

“On arrival at the scene, I found my brother lying on the ground in a pool of blood with clothes belonging to a woman beside his body,” Waswa said.

Torch house

He said residents reacted by torching four houses in the neighbour's homestead.

Waswa appealed to the police to investigate the killing and help find the culprit.

Confirming the incident, Malava OCPD Justus Kitetu said six suspects had been arrested and would be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.

“The suspected killer, who is still at large, reportedly accused the victim of taking away his girlfriend. Relatives of the deceased revenged by torching houses and also stole four cows,” Mr Kitetu said.

Kitetu condemned the incident and asked residents not to take the law into their hands.

The body was taken to Kakamega County mortuary for postmortem.
