Businessman alleges 'threats' from Mt Elgon MP John Serut

Businessman cum politician Harry Kimtai

A Mombasa-based businessman has recorded a statement with the Criminal Investigation Department in Kapsokwony, Mt Elgon constituency over alleged threats on his life by area MP John Serut.

Harry Kimtai, who has vied for the parliamentary seat for two consecutive terms without success, said Mr Serut called him on Monday last week at about 6pm and warned him of dire consequences if he allegedly continued inciting residents.

"I had attended a burial ceremony of the late David Cheptot last Saturday, who was shot dead by unknown assailants in Kaptama, where I asked area residents not to be attending ceremonies planned by politicians and whose aim is not known. This irked Serut who called and told me that he would deal with me," he said.

Addressing the Press Sunday after recording the statement in Kapsokwony, Mr Kimtai said such threats should not be taken lightly and that was why he had recorded the statement.

Contacted, Serut said: "Tell that guy to grow up. He is bankrupt of ideas." Mt Elgon OCPD John Onditi said that he had not received any report from Kimtai. "If he has recorded the statement with the CID, then maybe they are investigating and I will get the report very soon," said Onditi.
