Battle lines are drawn as the Volleyball league begins this weekend in Mombasa.

KCB is set to start their title campaign against newcomers Vihiga County on Sunday during the second leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation women’s league at the Kenya Ports Authority Makande Hall, Mombasa County.

On the same breath, the moneybags begin their season without the services of the experienced left attacker who decamped to oilers Kenya Pipeline.

Hard-hitting right attacker Sharon Chepchumba is also set to miss the Mombasa action, having just recovered from an injury.

The bankers boast signing the services of new blood from Kesogon high school, student Sarah Namisi who is an attacker, who will coordinate with Marion Indeche on the left side of attacking, Leonida Kasaya and Sharon Chepchumba who will be plying on the right.

Indeche decamped from the Director of Criminal Investigations to bolster the moneybag.

They will fill the gap left by Noel Murambi and middle blocker Violet Makuto who crossed over to Oilers Kenya Pipeline. Others are setter Faith Imodia and Belindah Barasa.

Other notable faces to feature include Malkia Strikers captain Mercy Moim, middle blocker Edith Wisa. KBC finished second on the log behind champions Kenya Prisons in the last two consecutive seasons.

KCB head coach Japheth Munala believes that, despite falling short in their last two attempts, he has blended both young and experienced players for this season.

"I have blended my squad that is good enough to propel us to the title. All the departments are well equipped to face the league opponents and emerge victorious as we chase the league title.

We begin the season playing against Vihiga who are new in the league and we know little about them. We will accord them the due respect they deserve but play for maximum points," said Munala.

Meanwhile, Former champions Kenya Pipeline women's volleyball team on the other side have signed Veronica Adhiambo, a left wing attacker and Caroline Sirengo both from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to strengthen her squad.?
