Kenyans react to Jubilee's remarks that Raila is creating crisis to get into power

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto said that Raila Odinga would be vanquished during elections on October 26, and there was simply no path to shared government. They made this remarks in a rally in Karatina on 15th October, 2017.

They also said that it was not for Mr. Odinga or any other individual to decide when elections would be held, and no demonstrations, or conditions would lead to a result other than elections on Oct 26.

Central Kenya leaders also urged the President to quickly sign electoral amendment laws waiting on his desk, so that there was clarity ahead of the elections, and no one would cite a lacuna in interpreting the law in future.

The Deputy President said Mr. Odinga was creating crisis to get support from Kenyans to get into state house.

“We want to tell him that even if he moves from London, Paris or Washington he should forget the Government of nusu mkate. Mr. Odinga has no choice but to follow the constitution. We are all equal before the law and we must abide by it,” said Mr. Ruto.

DP Ruto said President Kenyatta won the August 8 elections by more than 1.4 million votes, and the decision of the Kenyan people would be reaffirmed in the fresh polls ordered by the Supreme Court.

“We, the Kenyan people, have to send Mr. Odinga home on permanent retirement. It is your votes for Uhuru Kenyatta that will do so,” DP Ruto said.

“It is Raila that went to court to ask that the elections be repeated. It cannot be that he now does not want. Or he wants short-cuts. That no one knows whether he is in the elections or not. That is not the direction our country wishes to take.

Reacting to Odinga’s claim that other opposition candidates were stooges of Jubilee, the DP said: “Better a stooge of Jubilee, than a stooge of foreign interests.”

Senator Irungu Kangata said Opposition leaders were not interested in elections because they have already sensed defeat.

Governor Ferdinand Waititu urged residents in Central Kenya to turn out in large numbers and vote for President Kenyatta.
