Kenyans’ unusual reactions after Raila Odinga announced withdrawal from presidential race

National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer Raila Odinga on October 19th 2017 announced that the coalition will not be participating in the repeat election, leaving many Kenyans confused.

The former Prime Minister led the NASA coalition to Supreme Court, challenging President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory in the August 8th presidential election.

The Supreme Court declared the results of the August 8th election invalid, null and void – ordering for a fresh election within 60 days.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chair Wafula Chebukati announced that the repeat presidential election would be held on October 26th, a decision Raila was never comfortable with.

Raila vowed not to walk into another election with Ezra Chiloba still IEBC CEO and demanded his removal, but the CEO said that he will not retire and was focused on preparing for the next election.
