AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has tested positive for coronavirus. The Swedish hitman has made a strong start to the new season with the Rossoneri and scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Bologna on Monday.

But he tested positive for Covid-19, in testing done at the club’s Milanello training ground on Thursday. In response, Ibrahimovic said "I tested negative to Covid yesterday and positive today. "No symptoms what so ever. Covid had the courage to challenge me. Bad idea".

He is not the only Milan player to test positive, with defender Leo Duarte testing positive on Tuesday. The Rossoneri had confirmed the news in a statement, declaring: "Zlatan Ibrahimovi? has tested positive for Covid-19 following a second round of swab tests ahead of tonight's game against Bodø/Glimt.

"The Club has informed the relevant authorities and the player has been promptly placed in quarantine at home. All other team members and staff have tested negative." The entire squad and staff had been re-tested following Duarte's positive earlier this week. Both men must now spend time in quarantine, and Ibrahimovic's absence will be a major blow to Stefano Pioli's men.

Ibrahimovic may turn 39 on October 5th, but he began the 2020-21 season in fine fettle, scoring three times in Milan's opening two games. He remains a key focal point to their attack - but now they face being without him until after the next international break. Milan face Bodo-Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday night.
