Tom and Rita had happy smiley faces when they were spotted touching down at the airport and heading home in their car.

The couple remained light-hearted and cheerful throughout their battle with the virus but told fans that they had to take it seriously and follow the advice being handed out by experts.

Tom even joked at one point that he'd taken coronavirus with him to Australia in the form of his typewriter.

Giving an update from quarantine with his wife, he wrote on Twitter: "Hey folks. Good news: One week after testing Positive, in self-isolation, the symptoms are much the same. No fever but the blahs.

"Folding the laundry and doing the dishes leads to a nap on the couch.

"Bad news: My wife has won 6 straight hands of Gin Rummy and leads by 201 points. But I have learned not to spread my Vegemite so thick."

Making a joke about his typewriter, which has the brand name Corona printed on it, he added: "I travelled here with a typewriter, one I used to love. We are all in this together. Flatten the curve. Hanx"

Tom's movie has been shelved while the global pandemic is ongoing.

He was working on the Baz Luhrmann flick alongside Austin Butler.

Baz posted on Twitter: "I’m sure it will come as no surprise that this is not the moment to be resuming production on the film.

"Please know this is in no way a reflection of our commitment to make this movie here in Queensland. In fact, we are not even taking our sets down, simply locking up the creative space over the next few days."
