David Beckham is fighting his pal's corner.

The footballing icon, who's close mates with the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, has spoken of his pride in seeing the man Harry has become and how he's tackled fatherhood.

The spotlight is currently on Harry and his wife Meghan Markle over their decision to step back as senior royals and relocate to Canada.

While people remain divided over the matter, especially over whether press coverage of mixed race Meghan has been racist, David has heaped praise on "amazing" Harry.

The 44-year-old told ET Online: "I haven't spoken to Harry about him moving. We speak as friends and that's the most important thing for me.

"I think he's enjoying being a young father for the first time and that's what we always spoke about."When you are a parent it changes everything for you. He always needs to be happy."

Baby Archie was born in May last year, Harry and Meghan tying the knot in a Windsor Castle ceremony the year before with David and his wife Victoria in attendance.

David, who's kept himself busy with the formation of his Inter Miami side, added: "We love him and he's an amazing person - and that's the most important thing.

"But I'm proud to see him growing up as an individual ad being that person every father wants to be."

High praise indeed from dad-of-four David.

He continued: "Every father wants to be loving to their children and that's what I see with him."

Meanwhile, the footy legend, who's now an entrepreneur and model too, recently recalled the early stages of his own romance with Victoria.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, David revealed how he'd plucked up the courage to ask for the Spice Girl's number.

"She came to watch me in a game in London with her manager at the time, and one of the other Spice Girls, Sporty Spice," he told.

He continued that they'd met soon after in Manchester, dishing: "She'd had a couple of drinks, so I decided, why not? I'll try and get her number.

"We talked for about an hour in the players' lounge. She actually got the train up that day so she wrote her number down on the train ticket, which I still have."
