Sh47,000 wedding — Do not go broke while planning for a wedding

In an ideal situation, a wedding ought to be a once in a lifetime event and that probably explains why couples pump in thousands or even millions to make it successful.

You have probably been added to groups where members are given targets to ensure the wedding stands out.

I do not agree with such. I think one of the greatest decisions you will ever make is to live within your means.

Activist Boniface Mwangi on Tuesday shared details of his friend’s wedding that cost Sh47,000.

Through his Twitter page, Mwangi narrated how his friend planned a low-budget wedding that had ‘everything.’

He went ahead to break down the costs as an eye-opener to his followers who believe wedding budgets should be over the roof.

“My boy is now a husband. Costs; Rings: Sh17,000 Marriage certificate at Sheria House 3900/-, Wardrobe, smart casual from their everyday clothes.

“Photographer 5000/- Lunch with 10 close friends 20, 000/- Total 47k,” he wrote.

Adding: "Headed to a wedding at the AG's chamber. Mimi ndio witness and best man. My boy paid dowry, did a simple customary event and got parental blessings.

"Getting married isn't about spending a lot of money. Do it your way.”

The post drew a number of reactions and we have sampled a few below:

This is good, atleast people should change their perception that a wedding must be extravagant. You make other people happy, then you struggle paying loans alone. Sad some ends up committing suicide.— Abdi said (@Abdibinsaid) February 4, 2020

My own wedding cost less than 150k and yet we had over 300 guess. Everyone ate to their fill. Secret: Make sure you get a budget venue and hire cameras and get some friend to do photography for you. We began life bila madeni. No regrets— Baba Lao ???????? ???????? (@TonyMartial_9) February 4, 2020
