Kenyans react after DPP Haji said he will revisit Babu’s case

DPP Noordin Haji on Wednesday said he would revisit Embakasi East MP Babu Owino’s case over what he termed as an anomaly.

Speaking during a corruption workshop held by Ford Foundation, Haji said Babu’s bail terms were unacceptable and he had never seen such before.

“We are going for a revision. We agreed as ODPP and we have also written to the JSC. I cannot fathom it. First of all, I have never heard of bail terms that you are asked to pay in installments.

“Secondly, my understanding once you pay the bail it goes to the exchequer. How will we be able to access the money to go and pay the injured party.

“It is really unacceptable…we want to exhaust all channels. This is anomaly in my opinion," he said.

Online, some netizens were quick to praise the DPP saying he should move with speed.

Others, however, dismissed the DPP saying his move was PR stunt meant to quell temperatures.

Cruz Muthoni - Thankyou sir...pls revisit..punda amechoka

Michael Sila - MR DPP this is Kenya where everything is possible.A country of "firsts"

Ngeno Erick - In Kenya it’s true that wanyama wote sio sawa. Its true you can know the outcome of judgment earlier depending on someone's status.

Boni Mawira Bundi - The DPP is a man who fears the creator...He Administers justice.

Kimani Ole Regina - It’s called Kenya Next you will hear imprisonment with Installments.

Mwengwa Simon - How can the bail pay for treatment of the victim, so it means babu is guilty already? I can't fathom also.

Denis Makwara - What abt not revisiting it but allowing such terms to be applicable to the poor in the society, who when arraigned in courts are unable to pay bails?Going foward they be allowed to pay in installments too?? ama aje?

Babu was accused of shooting Felix Orinda (DJ Evolve) at a popular Nairobi club and he denied the charges.

Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi directed the MP to deposit the cash bail in four installments of Sh2.5 million each in the next three months to settle Evolve's medical bill.

The magistrate also barred Babu from taking alcoholic drinks or narcotic drugs in a public establishment during the pendency of the case.
