Uhuru joins MP’s family in mourning

President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a message of condolence to the family, relatives and friends of Mama Martha Kirigo Gachagua.

Mama Martha is the mother of Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua and the late former Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua.

In his message of comfort to the Gachagua family, the President described the late Mama Kirigo as a kind and hardworking woman who raised an outstanding family.

“Mama Kirigo was a gracious and courageous woman who raised a successful family and mentored many in her community," the President eulogised.

He described Mama Martha as a strong pillar in her community saying the late will forever be remembered and cherished for her generosity and distinguished role in community service.

The Head of State said the late Mama Martha's contribution to society and the country is reflected in her children's contribution to Kenya's socio-economic transformation.

“Mama Kirigo has been a role model as a successful farmer and business woman whose legacy will continue to be a reference point for many generations to come.

"Certainly we can see the fruits of her keen parenting through her children who are prominent leaders of our great nation,” the President said.

In a separate message, President Kenyatta condoled the family of Laikipia politician, the late Christopher Maitho Murigu.

The late Maitho was an astute grassroots politician and mobiliser who served as chairman of independence party KANU and later the TNA party in Laikipia County.

The President described the late Maitho as a friendly person whose politics of unity and development endeared him to many people in Laikipia and across the country.

“Maitho was an amiable person whose charm and charisma endeared him to many Kenyans especially those in politics.

“It is due to his commitment and devotion to empowering the community that he was elected and served successfully as Laikipia KANU chairman and later as TNA party leader,” the President said.

The President said the late Christopher Murigu will be remembered for the many development activities he initiated in Laikipia and prayed to God to give the families, relatives and friends of the two families the fortitude to bear the loss.
