Deputy President William Ruto has said the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) taskforce whose term was on Thursday extended should hasten implementation of the report launched last month.

The DP said the taskforce should use the shortest period to give the government time to implement President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big Four agenda.

Ruto hailed President Kenyatta for extending the taskforce’s term, thanking him for not agreeing to form a committee of experts to oversee implementation of the BBI report.

On Thursday, the President extended the term of the BBI team, ending speculation on who will steer the report’s implementation roadmap.

Speaking in Ziwa, Uasin Gishu County, during the burial of politician Stephen Metto, Ruto said the BBI taskforce led by Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji will be better placed to implement its own report. “We want do away with this report (BBI) within the shortest time so that we embark on the transformation of Kenya through the Big Four Agenda,” the DP said.

He said Kenyans unanimously agreed with contents of the report and are only waiting for its implementation.

“There is no need to look for other experts. Those who wrote the report are now in charge of its implementation. What is remaining is for the taskforce to complete the implementation matrix,” he said.

He asked politicians to stop propagating views that will ignite negative ethnicity.

“No one wants any amendments,” he said.

Ruto had earlier in the day at his Sugoi home met a delegation of grassroots leaders from Western region led by former Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale.
