Prof George Magoha’s many titles that have left Kenyans questioning

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha is known to be a strict and principled leader.

These traits, however, arose from the many years of experience in public service and his levels of education and research.

Magoha, who is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Nairobi's College of Health Sciences boasts of holding quite a number of titles.

From the photograph above, his name appears as, Prof George. A.O. Magoha, IOM, MBS, EBS, CBS, MBBS, FKNAS, FWACS, FICS, FCS (ECSA), FAAS, FMCS (Urol.).

But what are these titles?

Majority of Kenyans online seemed to only be familiar with MBS, EBS and CBS titles, only a small fraction could define more than four.

These awards, he however, acquired in both his professional career and public service.

They include:

1. Awarded International Order of Merit and Gold Medal for Research in Cancer of the Penis in Africans, 2001.

2. Awarded Scientific Achievement Award for Excellent Research in Urology in 2001.

3. Cited in Marquis who is who in 2001, who is who in Science and Engineering 2002-2003, and who is who in Medicine and Health Care in 2002-2003.

4. Awarded a Merit Award by the University of Nairobi for Dedicated Service to the University In 2001.

5. Awarded Member of the Burning Spear MBS in 2005.

6. Awarded Elder of the Burning Spear EBS in 2006.

7. Awarded Kenya Medical Association Excellence Award for Service to the Medical Profession in 2008.

8. Awarded Distinguished and Dedicated Service to the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board in 2009.

9. Awarded Chief of the Burning Spear CBS in 2017.
