Kipchoge thanks President Kenyatta after receiving the highest honour for a civilian

World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge on Monday, October 21, 2019, thanked the president for awarding him with the Order of the Elder of the Golden Heart (EGH) honour.

Through his twitter account, the athlete expressed his appreciation to the President and to the people of Kenya.

“My heartfelt gratitude to President of the Republic of Kenya for the highest award ever. Thank you, Mr President, thank you Kenya.”


President Uhuru Kenyatta honoured the marathoner during the Mashujaa day celebrations in Mombasa county on Sunday, October 20.

The president described Kipchoge as a living legend and added that his achievement should remind Kenyans not to limit themselves to the ordinary.

“In honour of all the heroes past, present and future I wish to invite and to recognize Eliud Kipchoge with the Elder of the Order of golden heart,” said the president.

President Kenyatta applauded the athlete for his integrity, hard work and commitment to excellence.

“He has demonstrated that through integrity, hard work and commitment to excellence nothing is out of reach,” said the president.
