Government donates Sh200,000 to family of the late Miriam Kighenda and Daughter

The government on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, donated Sh200,000 to the family of the victims of the Likoni ferry tragedy.

According to the Kenya Ferry Services, the money is meant to assist the family in the burial arrangements.

This was confirmed by the ferries’ body through their Twitter account who passed their sympathies to the bereaved.

“Today the Government(KFS) has donated Ksh 200,000 towards assisting the family of the late Mariam Kighenda and Daughter Amanda Mutheu in burial preparation.”

“In this time of grief, the family is in our thoughts and prayers. Please accept our deepest sympathies” read the tweet.

In late September, a vehicle with the two victims plunged into the Indian Ocean.

A viral video which was circulated on social media showed their grey saloon car floating half-way on the ocean as it sunk within seconds amid screams from onlookers.

The video showed a good Samaritan trying to swim with a rope to tie on the vehicle, but this ended in futility as the car was completely submerged.
