Rare Wedding: Oxen and donkey carts transport bride in Kirinyaga (PHOTOS)

It was a spectacle to behold when a hospitality industry service provider tied a knot using oxen and donkey carts as the means of transport for the occasion.

The convoy from Ndomba village to Kutus town was escorted by Boda bodas leaving area residents craning their heads along the three kilometer route to capture a glimpse of the rare wedding.

The oxcart which was leading the convoy carrying the groom had the bull fitted in ‘shoes’ which even amazed those lining along the route.

Boniface Kiarie and Mary Wawira traveled in two different ‘vehicles’ which had been decorated to befit the occasion.

Kiarie who is the manager of leisure Hotels in the town said he had decided to use the animal mode of transport to cut on costs given the hard economic times.

“I also wanted to tell those who believe in lavish weddings only to start crying after the guests leave that a simple one was still good enough as long as it accomplishes ones wishes and aspirations, “he said as he rode on the oxcart.

The convoy later brought motorist to a partial standstill on joining the main Kutus-Kagio road heading towards the local Full Gospel Church where the ceremony was solemnised with page boys dressed in navy blue suits and pink shirts walking side by side of the carts.

It was also on the same church grounds that a reception awaited the newlyweds with rice and stew being in plenty for the guests’ family members and friends alike.
