Police reveal what happened moments before businessman Karanja Kabage died

The National Police Service on Saturday morning issued a statement on the death of businessman Karanja Kabage that happened on Friday, July 5, 2019, at around 9.47pm.

According to the statement, the deceased was driving a Land Cruiser along the Southern Bypass from Ole Sereni direction towards Kikuyu.

Witnesses revealed that the vehicle veered off to the wrong side of the road, slowed down, appeared to be making a U-turn before hitting the pavement.

A taxi driver and a good samaritan rushed towards the vehicle to offer assistance and Kabage requested to be taken to hospital.

“The victim requested to be driven to Nairobi Hospital. The taxi driver took control of the Land Cruiser and drove Kabage to the hospital,” read the statement in part.

Upon arrival at Nairobi Hospital, Kabage was unconscious.

Doctors tried to resuscitate him but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead.

Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai has directed the DCI to institute investigations into the probable cause of death.

“We ask for patience and cooperation as we work to establish the probable cause of death,” said National Police Service Director of Corporate Communications Charles Wahong’o.

President Uhuru Kenyatta sent his condolences to friends and family of the deceased, describing him as a resourceful person who was always willing and ready to offer legal aid to those who sought his help.

“It is painful to lose a great friend at a time like this. I pray that God will give the family, friends and relatives comfort and fortitude at this trying moment,” the President said.

President Kenyatta, who is out of the country on a private visit to Tanzania, said Karanja Kabage's invaluable contribution to the growth of the insurance sector will always be an inspiration to many who serve in the sector and that he will continue to be remembered for generations to come for his great work.

“Indeed Karanja Kabage was a resourceful person whose great ideas helped grow our insurance sector to what it is today. We have truly lost a great son of Kenya,” said the President.
