Man busted getting intimate with partner at Uhuru Park fined Sh1500

A man who was busted getting intimate with his girlfriend at Nairobi’s Uhuru Park has been slapped with a Sh1500 fine or serve a one-month jail term.

Appearing before Magistrate Joseline Onga’yo, Maina Kanara pleaded guilty to the offence and asked for forgiveness.

Magistrate Onga’yo said that the act was against county by-laws and warned the accused against repeating it.

Maina and his girlfriend, only identified as Wanjiku, were caught in the act last week.

Uhuru Park is a recreational facility that is frequented by families and has activities such as boat riding, face painting and bouncy castles for kids.

Politicians also use the grounds for their rallies and on selected days, preachers organize crusades and healing services.

A few years ago in Kakamega County, lovers with insatiable appetite had turned Muliro Gardens to be their fortress.

Couples would be seen ‘reading the katiba’ on benches in broad daylight, leading to complaints from locals who said the situation was getting out of hand.

Members of the clergy had to be called in to cleanse the area and now the facility is closely watched by county askaris.
