A primary school teacher has been interdicted in Homa Bay County for defiling and impregnating his pupil.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has interdicted Lucas Rowa for defiling the class eight pupil.
Mr Rowa is accused of defiling the 13 year old minor in the school on Mfangano Island, Suba North sub-county, where he has been working.
The teacher is accused of defiling the girl on January 17 when the girl became pregnant. He allegedly defiled her in the staffroom when other pupils were studying in class that evening.
The school community smelt a rat when Rowa began seeking transfer from the school a few months ago after realizing that the girl was expectant. He showed interest in being transferred to another school in the neighbouring Suba South sub county.
His reason for the transfer was that he was tired of teaching on an island. But the quest the transfer was unsuccessful.
Homa Bay County TCS Director Grace Amira confirmed that the teacher was interdicted last Friday.
“The teacher has been interdicted and we have forwarded our findings on his case to the TSC commissioners who will make the final decision on whether he will be reinstated or dismissed from the service,” Amira said.
The director said their investigations revealed that the teacher had carnal knowledge of the minor.
The teacher is reported to have gone underground.
“He has been absconding duty after realising that authorities had learnt of his conduct. We have looked for him in his school but he is nowhere to be seen,” the director added.
He is reported to have been seen in his school on between May 15 and 19.
The county TSC director said the pupil will go on with her studies until she delivers.
“The pupil will proceed with her education after delivery. This will be done to accomplish the government demand of ensuring 100 per cent transition of pupils from primary school to secondary school,” Ms Amira said.
The matter has been reported to security officers who are currently on a mission to hunt for the teacher.

Suba North Police Commander Charles Mwangi said they are investigating the matter to ensure the punitive legal action is taken against the teacher.
“We will ensure that the teacher is traced and arrested for the minor to get justice,” Mwangi said.
