Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has elicited a lot of mixed reactions on social media after referring to the newly opened Waiyaki Way-Redhill link a ‘masterpiece’.
KURA announced that the Sh3 billion dual carriage Red Hill Link road was open for public use on 20 May 2019 while it awaits its official launch later this year.
Taking to its social media handles, KURA said the road has greatly improved access for motorists by reducing traffic congestion.
“Waiyaki Way - Red Hill Link Road is a master piece that has greatly reduced traffic congestion and improved access. The road is now open for public use,” posted KURA.
However, a section of netizens differed with KURA’s sentiments about the road being a ‘masterpiece'.
Here’s what some of them had to say;
Red Hill link road is a shoddy job. The road is of low quality with most sides are falling onto the tarmac and blocking lanes every now and then. You must have some low standards.— Robert Alai (@RobertAlai) May 21, 2019
Not to mention the fact that as built, this just caters to vehicles. Pedestrian walkways, and bridges to let them cross over without being in the same space as vehicular traffic, at the very least would be useful to future proof this. Lessons, clearly, not learned from Thika Rd.— Ramah Nyang (@Ramah_Nyang) May 20, 2019
Dear Macharia, KURA. For us to consider it a masterpiece it should have at the very least a proper pedestrian/cyclist paths, adequate acceleration and deceleration lanes and trees. Your road designs are wanting they have glaring inadequacies on roads such as thika and outer ring— Joram Kihumba (@jayhumba) May 20, 2019
The most useless bypass: Waiyaki Way at ABC is a dead end, Redhill road at Nyari junction dead end! Unless there's a proper overpass/intersection into James Gichuru and the road crosses over to Ruaka to join the northern bypass... IT. IS. POINTLESS.— @13xmu&0 (@alexmugo) May 21, 2019
Granted it's a masterpiece However U have ignored provision for
1. Bus stops
3. Cycle lanes
I haven't seen any
Does anyone @KURAroads think mass transit ever?
95% of the roads you do ignore this.

This is quite sad. Then shockingly they "vomit on our shoes" by calling it a masterpiece. I think we should start a #masterpiece campaign,tag @KURAroads and show them photos of proper roads from around the world. This is evil.— Bryan|TelosDAC|vote for telosdacnode#FBPE???? (@RBryan275) May 21, 2019
