Tough times as betting board restricts gambling

Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) has banned advertisement and commercial that features gambling saying that any form of advertisement must be approved by the board.

According to a press release sent to newsrooms, BCLB argues that gambling has the potential of harming the consumer amid concerns about gamblers being getting addicted as well as “unspecified” disorder.

“We wish to remind you that gaming has a potential to harm the consumer with a possibility of leading to addiction as well as some disorder. We therefore as a regulator of the industry has a duty to protect its customer, members of the public, the young and vulnerable,” read the statement.

Outdoor advertisement of gambling, advertising of gambling on the social media platform, advertising of gambling between 6 am and 10 pm were also listed as ads prohibited by BCLB.

The board further directed that it will be the approving authority on any form of advertisement of gambling.

“ It has further been decided that any form of advertisement of gaming must be approved by the board and such must contain a warning message about the consequences of gambling including its addictiveness and that warning message must constitute a third of the actual advertisement and must be the same font,” added the statement.

The directive to take effect before May 30th 2019.
