Recently, a lady by the name Micala Henson shared a document highlighting hospital rules in regards to having a baby in the ‘60s on Facebook.
The letterhead belonged to Cabarrus Memorial Hospital (USA), dated October 30, 1968.
The rules were quite strict and it must have been tough for mums during that period.
Here are some of the rules written in the letter:
Babies are on display at the nursery window from 2:30pm to 3:30pm and 7:00pm to 7:45 pm. Do not ask to see the baby at any other time.
Baby will come to mother for feeding; 9- 10am, 1-2pm, 5:30-6:30pm, 9-10pm. No visitor is allowed during these periods, not even the father.
Do not smoke while baby is in the room
Do not allow visitors to sit on your bed
Do not cover your baby with your linen
During first 24 hours, allow baby to nurse 5 minutes only
On second and third days allow baby to nurse approximately 7 minutes
On fourth and fifth day allow baby to nurse approximately 10-15 minutes
Do not eat chocolate, candy, raw apple, cabbage, nuts, strawberries, cherries, onions etc
