Hilarious hospital rules for new mums in the 1960s

Recently, a lady by the name Micala Henson shared a document highlighting hospital rules in regards to having a baby in the ‘60s on Facebook.

The letterhead belonged to Cabarrus Memorial Hospital (USA), dated October 30, 1968.

The rules were quite strict and it must have been tough for mums during that period.

Here are some of the rules written in the letter:

Babies are on display at the nursery window from 2:30pm to 3:30pm and 7:00pm to 7:45 pm. Do not ask to see the baby at any other time.

Baby will come to mother for feeding; 9- 10am, 1-2pm, 5:30-6:30pm, 9-10pm. No visitor is allowed during these periods, not even the father.

Do not smoke while baby is in the room

Do not allow visitors to sit on your bed

Do not cover your baby with your linen

During first 24 hours, allow baby to nurse 5 minutes only

On second and third days allow baby to nurse approximately 7 minutes

On fourth and fifth day allow baby to nurse approximately 10-15 minutes

Do not eat chocolate, candy, raw apple, cabbage, nuts, strawberries, cherries, onions etc
