30,000 vulnerable persons benefit Sh368 million

More than 30,000 vulnerable persons in the county will benefit from the Sh12.3 billion fund set aside by the national government.

The funds will be disbursed through the State Department of Social Protection under a programme dubbed Inua Jamii.

Beneficiaries from Homa Bay County will receive Sh368 million.

The beneficiaries include people who raise orphans and vulnerable children, persons with severe disabilities and people aged 70 and above.

Each person in those groups will receive Sh2,000 a month.

The money has accumulated for six months.

Homa Bay County Coordinator for Children's Services Peter Kutere said beneficiaries would be paid through their bank accounts.

The Government had earlier instructed the beneficiaries to open accounts with Cooperative, Equity, Kenya Commercial or Post Bank.

“There is a group of beneficiaries who will not get their money because of issues like shared national identity card numbers or failure to participate in the second registration exercise, within the recommended timelines. Let them be patient because they will be considered in the next exercise,” said Mr Kutere.
