Citizen TV crew robbed during Devolution Conference in Kirinyaga

Citizen TV crew covering the 6th Devolution Conference were on Monday robbed of their valuables after thugs broke into their vehicle.

Journalist Stephen Letoo confirmed the incident via his official Twitter handle, adding that Inooro TV also lost some hard drives.

“Citizen TV crew that I am part of has been robbed in Kirinyaga during the ongoing devolution conference.

“Mc book Laptops, PXW Camera, Citizen TV branded microphone, bags, money, cables and hard drives for both Citizen and Inooro TV,” he wrote.

The team comprising Citizen TV’s Letoo, Mauritius Oduor, Waweru Nyambura of Inooro TV and David Kabiru were having lunch when the thieves gained access into their vehicle by smashing one of the windows.

Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) were quick to react to this, saying the journalists should have expected such an occurrence.

“Pole sana. Real devolution conference. Theft devolved mpaka mashinani.”

“You are officially initiated into the county. Karibuni.”

“Poleni. This smells like an inside job.”

The 6th Devolution Conference officially kicked off on Monday (March 4, 2019) in Kirinyaga County and President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to give a speech today (Tuesday).

This year's theme is “Deliver, Transform, Measure; Remaining Accountable” and governors are set to tour the Nyeri County Referral Hospital to assess the impact of devolution on healthcare.

Over 6,000 delegates are expected to attend the conference and some have been forced to look for accommodation in neighbouring counties and towns.
