Sonko speaks on leadership positions he held while in prison

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Wednesday spoke of the leadership positions he held during his stints at Shimo La Tewa, Kamiti and Industrial Area remand prisons.

Speaking during a TV interview, Sonko stated that many leaders pretend when they are looking for votes and this works to their disadvantage.

He admitted that he was a fraudster initially but changed his ways and that is why he is where he is at the moment.

“I went to Shimo la Tewa prison and I was the leader for the ordinary block…I used to supervise how porridge was being distributed.

“I went to Industrial Area prison and I was the leader of C block…I was also a leader at Kamiti…” he said.

Sonko further stated: “Your past does not determine your future. Be proud of your past. You should not fear where you are coming from.”

He highlighted a period in his life when he lived in a single room with his wife and maintained that he is not ashamed of it.

Sonko also vowed to fight cartels that threaten to derail his plans saying his previous experiences have shaped him to become a better leader.

He lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta’s appointment of Interior CS Fred Matiang’i as chair of the newly constituted National Development Implementation and Communication Committee since the latter has a proven track record of efficiency.
